George Stevenson McWilliams was born November 8, 1830 in Ohio to John McWilliams and Lydia M Ferguson. He was christened on February 27, 1833 at the Presbyterian Church in Martinsburg, Knox County, Ohio¹. He married Martha E Rice on May 22, 1856 in Knox County². George died November 7, 1895 (presumably in Martingsburg) at the age of 64 and is buried in the Martinsburg Presbyterian Cemetery.
Martha E Rice was born February 1839 in Ohio³. Her parents (according to her great-granddaughter) were Thomas Rice and Martha Simpkins, though I have been unable to prove this so far. She died February 5, 1923 in Licking County, Ohio at the age of 844.
I am unable to find Geroge and Martha on an 1860 US Census, but by 1870 they have moved to Eden Township, Licking County, Ohio. The farm is worth $4,000 and their personal effects are worth $800. All three children are at school5. The family isn’t found on an 1880 census and since the 1890 census was destroyed, the next time we see Martha is 1900 living alone in Washington Township, Licking County, Ohio. She is listed as having 3 children (all living), she can read and write, and she is renting a house on Main Street³. By 1910 she moved in with her daughter Louanna 41 Grant Street, Newark, Licking County, Ohio6. Martha then moved to Thomas Ray’s farm in Netwon, Licking County, Ohio7.
George and Martha had 3 children.
